The Tuatapere Senior Citizens Club marked a remarkable milestone on Saturday, 22nd March, celebrating its 55th anniversary with a joyful afternoon gathering at the Waiau Town & Country Club.

Current and past members, along with friends and supporters from across the district, came together to honour the club’s proud legacy. The event was filled with laughter, stories, and a strong sense of community spirit — a true reflection of the values the club has upheld for over half a century.

Founded in 1970, the Tuatapere Senior Citizens Club has long provided a space for older residents to connect, support one another, and stay actively engaged in the community. From weekly meetups and afternoon teas to organised outings and special events, the club continues to offer social opportunities that enrich the lives of its members.

Saturday’s celebration was no exception. Guests were treated to a delicious catered meal, shared memories from past decades, and enjoyed live music and entertainment. Special thanks were given to long-serving members and volunteers whose contributions have kept the club thriving over the years.

John Munro welcomed everyone and spoke about the importance of connection in later life, especially in rural communities. “It’s the friendships, the support, and the sense of belonging that have kept this club going strong for 55 years,” they said.

The Waiau Town & Country Club provided the perfect setting, with its warm atmosphere and local charm. The room was beautifully decorated, and the afternoon was capped off with a birthday cake to mark the occasion — complete with 55 candles and a hearty sing-along.

As the Tuatapere Senior Citizens Club looks to the future, there’s a renewed commitment to staying connected, staying active, and continuing the tradition of welcoming new members into the fold.
